Refined foods

Refined foods are those foods that had some nutrients purposely removed from it to obtain a different product. It is different from processed foods where some nutrients may be lost due to heating or freezing. Examples are: fiber removed from grains (e.g. white rice, white flour), sugar extracted from sugar cane or beets, fats extracted from seeds (vegetable oils, margarine), liquids extracted from fruit and vegetables (fruit and vegetable juices).
